Flooring Solutions Suited For Your Home
With the greater awareness of protecting mother earth and her resources, more and more people choose wood as the flooring solutions for their homes. In choosing the best alternative among flooring solutions for your home, consider the following tips and suggestions:
Type Of Wood Floor And Your Budget
Two typical kinds of wood floors are solid wood floors and engineered wood floors. Solid wood floors provide stable flooring for as long as the floor is elevated from the ground level. They take longer and are more difficult to kiln-dry so gaps are provided for possible expansions in the future. But when dried 100%, they provide excellent, durable foundations for generations to come! They are carbon free and don’t allow allergens to hibernate in them, eliminating health hazards.
Engineered wood floors, on the other hand, are much cheaper and can cover more room on a per square foot basis. They are less prone to expansion and can be pre-finished before they are installed. Its main strength is in the layering of the wood underneath the surface.
Bamboo, although a grass, has similar properties of solid wood floors. It is resistant to moisture and more environment friendly than wood. It is the cheapest to install. Further, it is much more sustainable than either hard or soft forests, because it reproduces much faster and its growth cycle takes much less time.
Maintenance and the Different Sections of Your Home
Solid wood floors can be installed in any section of the home: bedrooms, living rooms, kitchen, and even bathrooms; but they are more expensive. They need re-finishing periodically but are cheap to maintain. Engineered wood floors are usually not re-finished, but need a new set for installation. They are good for bedrooms and living rooms. They usually last at least a generation (more or less 40 years). Bamboo floors can fit anywhere in the home and are the cheapest to maintain among the three.
